FAQ

Q: Hey, I have a mobile site, why isn’t it listed on Roozy?
A: Your site needs to be indexed by our web crawler in order to be listed in our search results.  In addition to that, the following criteria must be met in order for your site to show up in the Roozzy search results:

  1. Your site’s “robots.txt” file should allow web crawlers to index the pages in your site.  For more information on this, click here.
  2. There must be at least five (5) words, containing three (3) letters or more in order for Roozzy to index a page.  This usually isn’t an issue, unless the page is just a landing page with little to no content (i.e. a Flash page with the words “Enter Here” would not get indexed).
  3. Make sure your mobile content pages have a link to a sitemap, which contains the links of other mobile pages on your site.  This will enable Roozzy to find your content easier, as it will follow links within your sitemap, and index it’s content.
  4. Typically, Roozzy will only index two (2) “clicks” deep into a site.  What this means is that Roozzy will index the initial domain.com, plus whatever pages are linked to from domain.com, as well as any pages linked to from the second level of pages.  For example: Roozzy indexes yourdomain.com, which has one link to yourdomain.com/about.  yourdomain.com/about has links to yourdomain.com/about/contact, and yourdomain.com/about/faq.  Roozzy will index youdomain.com, /about, /about/contact, and /about/faq, but not any pages that are linked to on the contact, or faq pages.  If your site has links on pages that are more than two clicks away, please let us know so we can update your site’s indexing options.
  5. Roozzy also respects the rel=”nofollow” attribute in <a href..> tags, so <a href=”some_page.html” rel=”nofollow”> is ignored.
  6. If your page uses a “301″ redirect, it will not follow the redirection, or get indexed.
  7. Roozzy will only index the domain listed unless otherwise specified. For example, pages submitted as mobile.domain.com will only index pages under mobile.domain.com, and not domain.com. Further, links found on domain.com pointing to domain2.com won’t be followed unless specified. Only specify this action if domain2.com in the example is also a mobile compliant website.

Q: Why should I use Roozzy over another search engine?
A: Other search engines are designed with computer users in mind. Since computers can display large, complex webpages and images, these search engines don’t need to filter their content for compatibility with their end user’s browser. This is where Roozzy is different. Roozzy only displays websites, which are designed to display well on your mobile device. The tradeoff, is that Roozzy’s search results will turn up fewer results than other search engines, however the results you find on Roozzy are more likely to display well on your mobile device.

Q: I found a site in Roozzy’s search results that didn’t display well on my phone. What gives?
A: This, while not common, will happen from time to time for several reasons:

  1. There are many different phones with many different browsers, each with a unique ability to display a website in it’s browser. A website optimized to display well on “Phone A” might not display well on “Phone B”.
  2. Some mobile devices require that you enable certain options prior to them displaying correctly on your browser. For example, a site that displays HTML tables, JavaScript, style sheets, and other features might not display correctly if they are not enabled in your browser. Check your browser’s options to make sure the appropriate options are selected.
  3. The website you visited may have once been optimized for mobile browsers, but has since been updated, and not removed from Roozzy’s search results. If you believe this is the case, please report this problem here.

Q: I don’t want to enter Roozzy’s URL into my mobile browser everytime I want to search for something. Is there an easier way I can get there?
A: Certainly! Visit the App-Center to download the latest application for your device. If your device isn’t listed, and you think it should, please contact us with details of the device you’re using.
